Smart Grids are being promoted by worldwide electrical utilities and regulatory agencies as a way of addressing initiatives on energy saving, global warming, power grid reliability, and security issues. The smart grid network is an integration of:

(i) Electric power grids that deliver electricity from power generation sources to end-users 
(ii) Active two-way digital communication networks between utilities and consumers that monitors, manages, and controls the grid operations, renewable resources, and energy demands.

Many technological and specification requirements must be met to build a smart grid network that could maximize the benefits for utility companies. One of the requirements is a secure 2-way communication network between the utility control centers and meters at customers’ premises. Advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) establishes the communication solutions between utilities and clients and is an essential enabling technology, as part of overall smart grid strategies.

Low Voltage Standalone 
We provide standalone endpoint devices, SG 5001R2, that can be connected with a smart meter by using RS485 or RS232. It enables Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) services for meters with serial interfaces. This broadbandPLC communication CPE has a state-of-the-art broadband PLC chipset.

Besides, we also offer broadband PLC
communicationunit
, SG 5011R2, that connects and transfers data over the electric grid from the backbone to the customer’s endpoints. It bridges medium voltage (MV) grids to low voltage (LV) grids. Billion concentrators can serve as a backhaul channel responsible for collecting and transmitting all data signals to and from the MV head-end device located in the utilities control center.

Low Voltage Module
Over the past ten years, we have been supplying reliable, cost efficient daughter board, SG 5010R2 and SG 5000, that can deliver up to 200 Mbps connection bandwidth with automatic repeating and Ad-Hoc networking. Protected by DES, 3DES, 128-bit and 256-bit AES, our low voltage modules feature outstanding SNMP and web GUI (Graphic user interface) for easy installation. The modules also can couple BPL signals into the wiring of individual households to run energy management applications, such as in-home energy use displays.


Medium Voltage
Billion SG 5041 and SG 5031 are broadband PLC (Powerline Communication) head end and repeater, which connect and transfer data over the electric grid from the backbone to the customer’s endpoints. Medium Voltage (MV) grids to Low Voltage (LV) grids. SG 5031 MV repeater can serve as a backhaul channel responsible for collecting and transmitting all data signals to and from the Billion SG5041 MV head end located in the utility control center. Both SG 5031 and SG 5041 are important to enable multiple broadband power line applications, such as Smart Grid, power outage notification, dynamic routing and intelligent repetition, SCADA extension, and surveillance over the medium voltage grid. Additional service features include Internet connection, telephony, security alarm, smart home control, and video services.


BPL (Broadband Powerline) Solution


The independence of power line communication allows extremely stable and uninterrupted connectivity with greater service outreach in projecting and installing the communication modules suitable for the large scale of utility networks. Unlike wireless systems, there is no need to worry about signal interruption and limited bandwidth capacity, and this is why we adopt Marvell's broadband powerline chipset to eliminate the environmental and coverage restrictions. Our Smart Grid BPL provides broad bandwidth, strong resilience to signal disruption and is highly flexible to function as a strong auto-repeater. Given the independence of signal reception, BPL enables enhanced meter reading performance together with the routing functionality to achieve an extensive range of signal outreach.

In Billon’s PLC auto-repeating solution, one concentrator can handle up to hundreds of thousands of meters. In wireless systems like radio and Zigbee, the rate of severe signal disruptions caused by random objects (wall, tree, concrete, etc.) and noise is higher than 60%. These wireless technologies also take a prolonged time to resume the transmission and are much unstable and inflexible compared to BPL. BPL auto-repeating network is built collaboratively with repeaters, concentrators, and head-ends; one device bridging after each other offers ultra-connectivity and reliable network infrastructure.
 
Low Voltage
BPL solution is a low-cost, scalable and secure system that integrates broadband connectivity with the delivery of high-speed data over existing power lines. BiPAC 2104BiPAC 2100and BiPAC 2100N R2 allow users to create a high-speed local area network without new cabling. With this installation, BPL enables Internet connection through existing power line cable; users can directly connect  BiPAC 2104BiPAC 2100and BiPAC 2100N R2 to any electrical socket at their home or office and establish a link to the power line network. The device supports 300Mbps ultra high-speed wireless-N connection. 

BiPAC 2100 transfers data over the electric grid from the backbone to the client’s endpoints and  can serve as a backhaul channel responsible for collecting and transmitting all data signals to and from BiPAC 2300R2 located at the Data Center directly or BiPAC 2200 repeater located in the middle of a power grid. 

BiPAC 2200 is a broadband PLC communication repeater, which transfers data over the electric grid from the backbone to the customer’s endpoints. BiPAC 2200 PLC repeater can serve as a backhaul channel responsible for collecting and transmitting all data signals to and from BiPAC 2300R2 located in the Data Center. BiPAC 2300 R2 allows easy installations in neighborhoods, single and multi-dwelling units (MDUs), extending an existing internet connection (Fiber, ADSL, Satellite, etc.) over a power line, depending on the customer’s requirements and infrastructure.

In-Building EoC (Ethernet Over Coax) Solution

EoC (Ethernet over Coax) solution is a cost-effective, scalable, secure system that integrates broadband networking to deliver high-speed data over existing coaxial cable. It allows users to create a high-speed local area network, without the need for new cabling. By installation of a Billion EoC Head-End Router BiPAC 2310, it enables Internet connection through existing coax cable. Users can simply connect the EoC Access End-Point Router BiPAC 2110 2110N R2 to any coax socket in their home or office to create a link to the coaxial cable network. With an integrated 802.11n Wireless Access Point, the router enables faster wireless speeds of up to 300Mbps, the two built-in antennae effectively search for wireless signals and automatically adjust to the optimal connection after obstacles have been detected.

The EoC head-end unit BiPAC 2310 acts as a bridge combing the CATV (Community Antenna Television) and Ethernet signal to deliver the Internet via the standard coaxial in-building distribution system. It is designed to combine CATV signals with Ethernet digital data traffic to provide to the subscriber’s home through the existing coaxial network. The EoC end-point unit BiPAC 2110 & 2110N R2 is designed to offer a faster and more reliable stream of HD quality of entertainment seamlessly for residential users.

In-Home Plug-and-Play Solution 

End customers also can use a pair of Billion SG 2097SG 2095BiPAC 2094 R2and BiPAC 2093 R2 In-Home PLC Adapter as a bridge and transfer the broadband signals from living rooms to bedrooms over the existing power line. These home plugs allow users to share multimedia applications such as online games, IPTV and audio streaming with family all around the house with data transmission rate of up to 200Mbps. Their unique Smart Power Saving technologies can automatically detect the link status of connected devices and adjusts power consumption to enhance power efficiency, thus saving money on electricity bills. Smart Route technology ensures access point always through the best transmission path. Smart Repeater technology improves the connection status as the best performance. 

We provide a comprehensive Marvell in-home selection of simple plug and play powerline technologies that utilize in-home power line loops to provide network communications. No need to drill holes into walls or any extra Ethernet cable wiring service.

With built-in Smart AC Power Switching Control, the Billion SG2097 & SG2095 feature remote power on / off that enables you to control remotely your electrical home appliances by using a computer that is connected for the Internet access when you’re away from home. The Billion SG2097 & SG2095 provides users remote on/off control of appliances such as your washing machine. Even when you are on the way home, you can also remotely switch on the air conditioner to cool your entire house by handset or mobile phone via The Internet.
